Qualification(s):

Related Minimum Experience:

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulating, executing, and managing legal function operational management strategy.
  • Developing and recommending the operational plan and legal governance framework.
  • Assessing legal operational efficiency gaps and providing effective solutions.
  • Identifying legal risk, developing proactive measures to mitigate them and reporting on the aggregated Eskom Group legal risks to the relevant stakeholders
  • Championing and driving strategic legal projects in the office of the Legal & Compliance Head.
  • Supporting the Legal & Compliance Head in communication to Board and Exco through messages, briefing notes and opinions on legal matters
  • Ensure the development and submission of timeous, complete, and accurate legal reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis or as and when required.
  • Driving the effective and efficient management of the internal and external audit process.
  • Leading and overseeing the provision, development, and management of enabling quality legal support and stakeholder advice for operational and business continuity.
  • Initiating and recommending the implementation of legal solutions to complex business issues.
  • Participating in governance committees as a member, official or alternate to the Legal & Compliance Head and guiding the business from a legal perspective.
  • Conducting legal research, drafting legal opinions and other submissions, and providing legal advice on the implementation of legislation and case law.
  • Crafting creative solutions and new approaches for responding to legal obligations and external pressures to minimize risks and demonstrate leadership during the periods of change.
  • Manage a professional legal advisory team in the Legal & Compliance Department.
  • Leading and driving a high-performance culture by translating and communicating the annual performance goals and measures based on agreed objectives.
  • Setting performance standards and concluding performance compacts with direct reports, monitoring performance through Eskom performance management system and individual development plans and providing regular feedback to direct reports and Legal & Compliance Head.
  • Establishing, revising, and efficiently managing Eskom’s Legal Panel of Attorneys.
  • Ensuring that expenditure is within budget
  • Ensuring that invoices for legal services are processed accurately and timeously.
  • Reviewing the performance of external attorneys, advocates and legal consultants and addressing issues of poor performance or non-performance timeously.
  • Lead stakeholder management and relations by inter-alia establishing and managing strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to demonstrate legal Department value.
