Core Purpose of the job
The Group General Manager: Stakeholder Management role is to embed the Group’s reputation and stakeholder management framework and policy and build stakeholder management capability across the markets. The role will be instrumental in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of stakeholder engagement activities for the group.
Context
The urgency for change has become more heightened amidst increased competitive intensity across all markets in which MTN operates. The Group’s Sustainability & Corporate Affairs function under which this role falls must therefore ensure the successful delivery in the context of:
- Rapidly changing ICT environment
- Complex and rapid evolution of technology and regulation
- Macro-social and political climate intricacies of our operating environment
- The geographic complexity of MTN’s footprint across Africa and the Middle East
- Need to balance the needs of various stakeholder groups against each other
- Importance of getting to know and understand stakeholder expectations and issues and in fully responding
- Interdependencies between public and private sector
- Increasingly global consumers prefer to buy goods and services from companies that stand for a purpose that reflects their values and beliefs
- Issues such as trust, stakeholder relationships and perceptions of the difference a company make in country are turning into hard metrics with consequence
- Need to continuously innovate the way business is conducted
- Dynamic and fast changing organisational requirements
- Growing pressure from stakeholders for disclosure and transparency
Requirements
Education:
- Degree in International Relations, Political Studies, Diplomacy, or related field. Postgraduate degree would be advantageous
- Relevant certification / accreditation / membership with professional body as required for role
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years senior management experience or more
- Minimum 5 years relevant sector/industry/area of specialisation (understanding emerging markets advantageous)
- Experience working in a medium to large organization
- Demonstrable experience of working in 3 or more countries in Africa and the Middle East
