Geology Observer needed at Northam Platinum

Job description
Northam Eland Platinum Mine has an exciting opportunity for a Geology Observer to assist with underground mapping and plotting of geological features, recording of underground face observation data and report on any safety related issues. Guided by our purpose and our values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to promote “Smart Platinum Mining “, delivering on metals (PGMs) including platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• B.Sc. /BTech Geology will be advantageous

Experience

• Minimum five (5) years’ working experience in the Bushveld Complex

Key performance areas

• As our Geology Observer some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to: 
• Routine geological mapping and data capture in an underground environment
• Plotting of Geological structures on Mine plans, electronic and paper plans
• Report any Geological anomalies to the Geologist and Senior Geologist
• Collection and capture of data for monthly evaluation purposes
• Generate geological sections, geological reports and evaluation reports
• Correctly apply the Trigger Action Response Plan (TARP)
• Assist with sampling and density measurements
• Splitting of core with diamond saw and general core yard tasks

Additional requirements

• Familiar with SableData Warehouse
• Proficient in Microsoft suite (excel, word, outlook)
• Proficient in Microstation/Autocad/MineRP/Sycromine draughting software
• Valid driver’s license
• Medical Certificate of Fitness
