  • An opportunity has arisen for a Head: Payroll to oversee the payroll of between 10 000 – 12 000 employees, ensuring precise and timely salary payments. Responsible for all aspects of payroll administration including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. You will handle payroll-related activities such as processing bonuses, overtime, and deductions, reconciling payroll data, and generating reports. Compliance is a key part of your role, managing submissions to SARS (including EMP501 and WCA returns) and ensuring adherence to immigration and labor laws for expatriate payrolls.
  • You will address employee queries related to taxes, payroll, benefits.  You will assist employees with UIF claims, tax documents, and employment confirmations while providing HR reporting and analysis to aid management decisions. Managing relationships with third-party providers, collaborating with auditors, and liaising with the finance team on payroll journal queries will also fall within your purview. Additionally, you will maintain the payroll system, ensuring legislative compliance in all our countries, support monthly payroll runs, process final settlements for exiting employees.

Minimum Requirements    

  • Minimum qualification: 4 year Degree / NQF level 7 in a finace related field.
  • Experience in a similar role: Up to 8 years’ experience

Duties & Responsibilities    
Payroll, Financial and Leave Management:

  • Provide oversight and be fully accountable for the input and outputs of the payroll
  • Lead and provide direction to the payroll team to deliver an accurate and timeous payroll service
  • Ensure sound integration of processes which impact the payroll function and proactively identify and resolve any risks resulting in poor integration.
  • Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy
  • Managed employee benefits from an accounting perspective
  • Oversee and review National bargaining Council submission – all Wage employees, 3rd party payments and payroll imports to ensure colst allocation timeously and corrected performed. Oversee and review Balance Sheet Reconciliation and Income Statement reconciliation
  • Ensure compliance as it relates to payroll taxes
  • Submission and Payment of PAYE, SDL and UIF
  • Submission of UIF declaration
  • Submission of COIDA declaration
  • EMP501 interim and final submissions
  • EMP201 submissions
  • Perform file analyzes, manipulation and conversion in support of electronic file processing in EFT payment to
  • Oversee the full reconciliation and communication process pertaining to Leave Management

  • Ensure sufficient segregation of duties to mitigate risk
  • Manage compliance with applicable policy, agreements and payroll tax obligations
  • Review payroll admin processes and put forward a recommendation to ensure it is adequate, legal, efficient and
  • Ensure payments attracting interest and penalties paid timeously
  • Drive any audit requirements, Internal and External
  • Conduct regular Audits of payroll data to identify discrepancies or errors and rectify before processing
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure payroll practices and processes meet compliance standards

Payroll Budgeting and Analysis

  • Support the Finance team with payroll cost analysis and budgeting
  • Prepare adhoc reports on payroll and trends for senior management and provide insights into potential areas for cost efficiency

Technological Enablement

  • Manage integration of time and attendance systems with payroll functionality
  • Drive efficiency and utilization of the payroll system
