Job Description

To develop and manage a strategy and operating model that supports the growth and development of the Old Mutual Insure Specialty business through developing, implementing and managing a fit-for-purpose operational excellence capability. Manage the operations, risk and compliance and policy administration systems which supports a comprehensive range of fit for purpose and best in class specialty insurance products.

Define, develop, and lead the implementation and execution of the Specialty operational excellence division’s strategy to meet performance and growth targets whilst enhancing the organizations presence and profile within the market.

  • Drive the development, planning and implementation of a winning and fit-for-purpose strategy for the Operations Division.
  • Drive the development, enhancement, maintenance, and implementation of TIA system bespoke to Specialty product Lines.
  • Develop and drive the implementation of Re-Insurance Model and systems applicable to Specialty Division.
  • Establish a strategic Balanced Scorecard focused on the implementation, measuring and management of the organizational strategy and drive the cascading of the scorecard into the departments within Operations.
  • Determine the business value chain for the Operations Division and drive the cascading of the business value chain into the departments within Operations.
  • Drive the development and maintenance of a flexible yet sustainable and appropriate organizational architecture for the Operations Division.
  • In collaboration with underwriting, risk and compliance manage the development and maintenance of a winning product development lifecycle capability.
  • Drive the internal product testing process.
  • In collaboration with the business development, contribute to the development and maintenance of a winning customer lifecycle capability.
  • Drive the development, implementation, and maintenance of strong operational management practices across the product fulfilment; origination, new business processes and customer intimacy.
  • Set strategic direction of and ensure an effective operational excellence to Old Mutual Insure Specialty division, through process engineering development, AI capability, Systems thinking development, expense management, exceptional customer delivery, and effective risk management (controls, compliance).
  • Drive the development, implementation and maintenance of a fit-for-purpose management information systems and business intelligence capability.
  • Set strategic direction and ensure an effective information and communication technology capability is provided to Old Mutual Insure Specialty division.
  • Drive recommendations to extract greater value from strategic partnerships and joint ventures to achieve profitability and growth targets or improve the customer experience.
  • Ensure that risk is managed optimally within the technical framework particularly in risk acceptance and underwriting appetite.

Continuous improvement to ensure effective service

  • Ensure statutory and legislative knowledge is always current in order to resolve customer complaints, to advise the business on corrective solutions to mitigate risks and to improve the customer experience whilst complying with governance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Identify solutions to enhance cost control, increase operational efficiency and manage operating budget goals.

Service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Maintain service, quality, and desired outputs across the business process by ensuring compliance to tactical policies, procedures and standards.
  • Establish productive operational relationships with key stakeholders in the various channels and administrative teams.
  • Develop work routines in line with operational plans / schedules in order to manage achievement of service delivery goals.
  • Share knowledge on, and participate in the creation of new standards, control systems and procedures to enhance service delivery.

Ensure cost efficiency through financial and corporate governance

  • Accountable for the development and implementation of fit for purpose budgets.
