About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with unions and effectively represent I&J in disciplinary hearings, CCMA proceedings, wage negotiations, and consultations.
  • Manage union negotiations and industrial action matters.
  • Establish and attend statutory committees and HR/employee forums to foster collaboration.
  • Partner with the Executive team to ensure the HR operational plan is aligned with business functions.

HR Operational Plan

  • Develop and implement an HR roadmap that considers future trends, strategic direction, and legal requirements.
  • Oversee business planning for HR, including policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Apply AVI reward and remuneration strategies to attract and retain talent.
  • Drive employee engagement and culture change initiatives.
  • Lead performance management, training, and leadership development programs.
  • Oversee capacity planning, labor control, HR information management, and communication.
  • Manage talent, including succession planning, industrial relations, and the HR budget.

HR Business Partnering

  • Align with the Executive team to ensure successful execution of HR initiatives and seamless service delivery.
  • Provide expertise on business-driven projects, and offer guidance on people costs and headcount forecasting during the budgeting process.

People Management

  • Set annual performance objectives for the HR function, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Foster a high-performance culture and manage departmental performance against agreed metrics.
  • Coach and develop the HR team to ensure legislative compliance and effective policy implementation.
  • Manage the annual HR expense budget in coordination with the Finance team.

Governance and Transformation Reporting

  • Develop and review internal controls, policies, and HR business processes.
  • Prepare statutory and annual governance reports.
  • Lead the transformation and BBBEE agenda, and drive Employment Equity targets.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote diversity to support transformation goals.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of HR management experience, with at least 5 years at an executive level in an FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Qualifications: A completed degree in HR or Industrial Relations, plus a relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Expertise in HR strategy, policies, legislation, people management, aligning HR with business strategies, and financial management.
