Purpose of the position:

  • The Human Rights Ambassador / Reactor works closely with community members, local service providers and community structures to  educate and sensitise them on human rights and human rights violations experienced by Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and young Key and Vulnerable Populations (YKVP’s) to reduce Human Rights-related Barriers to HIV/TB Services as part of the integration within the Adolescent and Young People’s Programme

Minimum Requirements    

  • Matric certificate or equivalent NQF qualification
  • Basic training on documentation of gender-based violence and human rights violations
  • Previous experience working in a human rights environment is an added advantage
  • Experience in working with people living with HIV/AIDS, Youth, Sex Work, and other key and vulnerable populations
  • Experience in engaging and representing key and vulnerable populations
  • NGO sector experience and monitoring and evaluation is preferred
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Clear criminal record
  • Ability to travel as and when required

Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Facilitating legal literacy sessions with AGYW and young key populations to encourage reporting of human rights violation
  • Facilitating community dialogues related to human rights and human rights violations to publicize, encourage reporting and minimize human rights violations
  • Facilitate sensitisations with stakeholders on AGYW and young key populations to support access to services
  • Documenting, capturing and reporting human rights reported abuses and violations
  • Providing initial information or referring survivors of human rights violations to referral pathways in order ease access to justice such as to law clinics and other human rights structures
  • Complying with Mandatory reporting requirements as outlined in the Children’s Act
  • Case Managing any violations reported and referred for further services in order to ascertain and support successful outcomes of legal and non-legal matters
  • Planning, supporting and facilitating district and provincial advocacy campaigns and human rights events and
  • Reporting cases to Paralegals for further support with investigation/analysis and appropriate referral and linkage to support services
