Job Description
- We are looking for a dynamic, hard-working and committed individual to conduct financial analysis, financial research and thought leadership in competition policy development; ensuring the application of sound financial principles in all work performed.
- (A starting annual total cost to company package of R 938 471.62 negotiable commensurate with experience)
- Please note that the position is available on a five-year fixed term contract.
The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:
- Assist with the identification of issues to be assessed in an investigation and the evidence required to analyse those issues.
- Assist with the development of information requests and survey instruments to gather the required evidence, including follow up requests.
- Assist with research to aid the team’s understanding of the market dynamics and business models in a given market.
- Analyse financial data for competition investigations, focusing on market conduct, mergers, and potential anti-competitive practices
- Provide assistance into the compilation of expert reports to inform The Tribunal, based on a review of the facts of the case and additional information gathered to support an economically defensible recommendation.
- Report to the Principal Analyst or Senior Analyst on the progress and outcomes of research and investigations, including the economic underpinnings of competition issues.
- Contribute to the provision of the theoretical and intellectual platform for the effective implementation of the Competition Act.
Job Requirements
We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements:
- Honours Degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting or Management Accounting.
- Masters or Membership of a recognised professional body (SAICA, CFA, CIMA or ACCA) added advantage.
- A minimum of 2 – 3 years related work experience. Additionally, working experience in competition economics will be an advantage.
- Specific experience in cost accounting/management or regulatory financial analysis will be an added advantage
- Strong analytical skills and experience in managing research are essential.
- Knowledge and understanding of the purpose and objectives of the Competition Act, the Commission and the South African economy is highly recommended.
- Knowledge of policy and legislative environment
- Strong project management / case management skills.
Other considerations:
- Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.
The candidate must have the following attributes:
