About the Role
This specialized assistant supports dental technologists in the creation of prosthetics and orthodontic appliances. Utilizing technical data and precise molding techniques, the assistant ensures compliance with dental health standards and minimizes operational risk in prosthetic manufacturing. Their technical support is essential for providing high-quality dental care and restoring patient functionality within public dental clinics.
- Appropriate experience in a Dental Laboratory as a Laboratory Assistant.
- Good communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain equipment.
- No payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. Short listed candidates will be subjected to a written and oral assessment. The pool of applications will be considered for vacancies within Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services, for a period of three months from the date of the advert, provided that the job title, core functions, inherent requirements, and salary level are the same as those of the advertised post.
- Provide effective support service in the Dental Laboratory. Provide a support service to dental technicians for eg. invest and pack dentures, Pouring and trimming of models and articulate working models.
- Assist Dental Technicians in handling materials, equipment and errands pertaining to their scope of practice. Provide support within the dental laboratory stores. Basic maintenance of laboratory equipment. Provide basic administrative support and keep proper statistics of work done in input and output registers.
- Senior Certificate (or equivalent).
- R 193 359 per annum – R 227 766 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
Career Growth & Education
A Senior Certificate is the minimum, but a Certificate in Dental Laboratory Assisting is highly preferred. Career progression leads to Dental Technician roles for those who complete a National Diploma in Dental Technology and register with the SADTC. Specializing in digital dentistry and CAD/CAM modeling through technical bootcamps can lead to high-paying roles in private dental laboratories.
