Minimum Requirements

  • Experience as a Laying Manager in a Broiler Breeder environment
  • Exceptional people / team leadership skills – Coaching employees to help them develop a clear understanding of the requirements relating to Animal Welfare, Food Safety and Quality and develop your team to ensure they have the capability to meet the performance goals
  • A good understanding of modern farming methods, a commitment to animal welfare

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Laying Operations – Manage all production related activities ensuring consistent compliance with standard operating procedures in order to achieve optimal production output efficiencies
  • Production Management – Manage the farm under your responsibility to achieve cost effective production targets
  • Ensure operational planning, placements or depletions are completed and implemented to achieve optimal production
  • Ensuring the highest standard of fertile eggs are produced to optimise production efficiency
  • Correctly calculate and issue feed and water requirements to ensure that supply is sufficient to meet nutritional requirements and manage feed stock levels
  • Managing and compliance of a strict bio-security environment  and maintaining an effective biosecurity programme by practicing good hygiene, vaccination and disease prevention
  • Ensure all livestock is treated humanely, and in compliance with company standards
  • Strong analytical skills relating to breeder technical aspects.
  • Work efficiently in a team environment with tact, patience, and a willingness to work with colleagues, ability to build relationships and be able to work under pressure
  • Drive improvement in the performance standards for uniformity of the flock, point of lay cost (POLC), health and animal welfare (up to 65 weeks)
  • Conduct post-mortems and report finding to senior area ops manager and group veterinarian
  • Record and monitor weekly husbandry parameters
  • Ensuring that cleanout and housekeeping duties are done properly (i.e. the houses are properly washed and sanitized at cleanout, grass is kept short, drains on site are kept clean, all waste and debris from the site is removed and buildings on site are maintained)
  • Involve the team by encouragement and motivating to deliver safety excellence and promote risk awareness by getting involved and following safety rules and identifying risks
  • Attending to HR/IR matters (i.e. planning leave, time sheets, disciplinary measures, interviews etc.)
