Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach and assess Mathematics or Applied Mathematics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Supervise postgraduate students.
  • Conduct research and publish in accredited journals.
  • Obtain research funding from industry, parastatals, and international grants.
  • Perform administrative tasks and other department and faculty activities.

Inherent Job Requirements:

Lecturer

  • A PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment).

or

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position). 
  • A proven ability and experience (at least 3 years) in teaching Mathematics at the university level.
  • A lecturing track record that demonstrates innovation and reflexive practice.
  • Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
  • A good academic record (attached).

Recommendations:

  • Experience in teaching large classes (e.g., more than 300 students).
  • Experience in educational research or academic development work.
