Duties and responsibilities:
- Teach courses in Finance/Banking including specific specialisations that may include banking, financial risk management, financial markets and institutions, derivative instruments, portfolio/investment management, or corporate finance to undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.
- Assist and contribute meaningfully to core activities of the Department, such as academic administration, research, marketing, seminars, and community development projects.
- Participate in formal development programmes within the UFS aimed at strengthening aspirations and skills as a researcher and lecturer.
- Assist in mentoring and supervising postgraduate students at Honours and Master’s level.
- Conduct collaborative research in Finance/Banking.
- Complete PhD studies in instances where this has not yet been completed.
- Publish in scholarly DHET-Accredited journals.
- Disseminate research at conferences, seminars, or workshops specialising in Finance/Banking.
Inherent requirements:
- Master’s degree on NQF Level 9 in finance/Banking or related field, passed with a minimum of 70% (please attach academic record).
- The candidate must be a registered PhD candidate (please attach proof) or intend to register within the first year of the appointment with clear evidence of research focused on the above-stated specialisations.
Recommendations:
- A PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in Finance/Banking or related field.
- Knowledge of current topics and developments within the fields of Finance or Banking.
- Aspirations to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst or Financial Risk Manager professional designation upon completion of PhD studies.
- Evidence of previous lecturing experience will be an advantage.
- Evidence of published article(s) in DHET-accredited journals will be an advantage.
- Possess the necessary skills and knowledge in using software including Eviews, Stata, SmartPLS, or SPSS (including Amos).
- Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of coding language including Python and R and apply this in the disciplines of Finance/Banking.
- Possess effective communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation, training, and presentation skills.
