Job Description:

As Manager Mine Technical Services & Integrated Planningyou will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Be accountable for discipline health and excellence in: Operational Mine Planning / Short Term Planning, Medium Term Mine Planning, Surveying & GIS, Geotech, Drill & Blast Technical, Mine Activity Design, Work Management, Mine Reconciliation & Governance, Integrated Planning & Reporting, et al.
  • Understand the complete structural lay-out of MTS and other support service functions to the Mine Production Departments, the Engineering & Maintenance Department, Processing, et al.
  • Work with the General Manager on the site implementation plan and develop an implementation plan for approval for MTS Schedules and Sign-off protocols; including WM, STP, OMS, BP and LoM.
  • Work with direct reports to ensure all clearly understand their roles and those of their team members. Establish a system to monitor structural implementation and work with Section Managers and Specialists to correct any variations that may be occurring in MTS and Integrated Planning.
  • Work with the General Manager to assess capability of Section Managers and Specialists. As the MOR of MTS Supervisors and Engineers, work with Section Managers and Specialists to conduct the same assessment for Supervisors / Engineers. Where shortfalls are identified with particular Supervisors, develop and execute plans to correct deficiencies.
  • Where work is being undertaken to identify new or changes to insourcing or outsourcing options, act as the internal client for opportunities identified within MTS. Recommend options to the General Manager as appropriate; develop and execute plans for approved options.
  • Work with MTS Section Managers, Specialists and Supervisors to identify opportunities for performance improvement in the Technical, Commercial and People areas of the Business with particular focus on MTS. Recommend proposals to the General Manager for approval. Head of Mining to be advised for future structural discussions as well.
  • Review Section Manager and Specialist alignment across the three Mine Production Departments, the Engineering Department, and Mine Technical Services (MTS); determine where there is alignment or not.  Develop, recommend and implement changes to improve alignment where appropriate.
  • Lead the implementation of the Anglo Operating Model in MTS. This includes understanding the context for, and goals of the AOM and communicating these to all within MTS.  Work with site and external AOM support resources to develop an AOM implementation plan, identifying the work required for each role reporting to the Manager.  Assign tasks to each direct report for the work required, monitor these tasks, address any issues as they arise, and provide feedback on their completion.
  • Work with expert resources to clarify, develop if necessary, and recommend the mine planning processes to be used at Sishen Mine, especially for operational plans, in line with the Planning Prcoess. The recommended planning processes should be consistent with AOM principles and good practice in mine planning, and identify lease, license, and future land development issues. Implement the approved planning processes; incl. WM, STP, OMS, MAD, BP and LoM. This must also include the Survey & GIS Discipline, as well as Geotech and Drill and Blast Technical disciplines.
  • Establish a System to identify and qualify all the required technical skills and competencies; including RPAS licensing and associated Mine Planning Software skills.
  • Review the work processes that underpin the interactions between MTS, Kumba, and Anglo-American Corporate technical services and mine planning teams (“HQ Mining”) on life of mine planning and other Strategic Planning. Work with appropriate peers to address any deficiencies.

This role is in the Mine Technical Services (MTS) department at a Band 5 level reporting to General Manager Sishen Mine.

Qualifications:

  • B.Eng Mining / B.Eng Geosciences / BSc Mining / BSc Geosciences
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competence (beneficial)
  • Driver’s Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)

Experience

  • 3-5 years HOD Level experience (this is a senior management position for the largest surface mine in Africa).
  • Operational background; experience in senior management positions, including MTS / Manager Mining level.
