Medical Specialist – Anesthesia needed at Gauteng Department of Health

Requirements :

• Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent. MBBCh/ MBCHB, Medical Specialist in Anesthesia– MMED Anesthesia and FCOG and active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Anesthesia.
• Grade 1- experience not applicable, registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anesthesia.
• Grade 2- 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia. Grade 3- 10 years’.
• Inherent requirements of the job: Participate in the after-hours call system (Commuted overtime is compulsory).

Knowledge, Skills, Attributes and Abilities:

• sound clinical knowledge and experience in Anesthesia.
• Knowledge of current Health and Public Service Legislation, Regulations and Policies.
• Knowledge of Medical Ethics, knowledge of budget control.
• Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to supervise, train and mentor medical officers and other junior members of staff.

Duties :

• To administer and oversee the administration of Anesthesia at all levels and service points. Providing clinical services in Anesthesia subspecialties as determined by the department.
• Participate and assist in teaching and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Perform administrative duties as delegated by the Head of Department. Conduct clinical research / audits and/ or participate in the research programs in the department and supervise MMed research studies.
