REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications and Competencies

• Grade 12 / NQF 4. SMLTSA certificate.
• Registered with HPCSA in histopathological Technique as a Medical Technician.
• Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Technician.
• Grade 2: Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA Medical Technician.
• Inherent requirement of the job: Computer literacy including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Virtual meeting platforms literacy.
• Inherent requirement: A valid driver’s license [attach a copy]

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Laboratory Safety Compliance: Adherence to decontamination procedures upheld 100% of the time, e.g. daily bench decontamination, bio-hazardous spills, and instrument decontamination spills post service.
• Laboratory process (laboratory work and/or reports): Daily receive, sort and prioritize patients’ samples according to laboratory SOP.
• Daily grossing and processing of tissue samples.
• Adherence to set turnaround times for each test on site.
• Daily filing and storage of specimens. Checks abnormal results according to laboratory SOP and reports results according to SOP.
• Prepares stains and slides for specialized testing.
• Daily documents data in own area of work.
• Maintained and operated equipment: Perform equipment maintenance as per schedule.
• Ensure sufficient stock is available as per guidelines.
• Performance of quality checks.
• Competency certificate for operation of equipment.
• Quality assurance: Identify IQC and report deviations to supervisor.
• Teaching, training and development of laboratory staff and other oral health professionals: CPD presentation.
• Train and be competent using SOPs for all instruments in the laboratory including maintenance in own area of work
