REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 4-5 years of which 3 years post registration experience in occupational health care
  • Matric and National Diploma or BCur Nursing/ B-Tech Degree/ Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7).
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing
  • Must be registered with South Africa Nursing Council (SANC) and South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (SASOHN)
  • Must have a Dispensing License
  • Certificate in Audiometry and Spirometry
  • Experience in an occupational health setting, preferably in the chemical industry added as an advantage
  • Valid driver license

Occupational Health and Safety Key Objectives:

  • Provide a comprehensive Occupational Health (OH) Service to the organization.
  • Conduct pre-employment, periodic, exit and transfer medical examinations, audiometry, spirometry and vaccinations on employees to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other related legislation.
  • Targeted employee health monitoring done in accordance with the risks to which each employee may be exposed and in keeping with the inherent requirements of the employee’s   job
  • Evaluate and treat and report Occupational injuries and illnesses under the supervision of the Company Doctor in an efficient and professional manner within the scope of practice and in line with clinical nursing guidelines and in keeping with the relevant legislation (COID Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, The Nursing Act and The Medicines and related substances control Act).
  • Manage and conduct ill-health incapacity cases in line with relevant legislation and applicable Policies.
  • Conduct onsite health risk assessments to establish an exposure risk profile and adequate medical surveillance programmes.
  • Stock control and ordering of medical supplies according to Permit Regulations.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in Occupational Health and advise the organisation of any impacts and changes.

Establish and maintain accurate and effective systems

  • Maintain accurate and adequate records in line with the relevant legislation.
  • Capture data according to legal statutory requirements.
  • Filing and storing employee records to achieve quick access to information.

General

  • Develop and review and implement standard operating procedures to ensure adherence to relevant legislation.
  • Carry out the administrative and operational activities of the Clinic to ensure safe keeping of records and drugs while maintaining confidentiality
  • Responsible for capturing and reporting the statistics on injuries, occupational diseases, and sick notes to track the trends and identify areas of potential risk.
  • Provide health information, counselling, education and raise awareness to employees.
