Minimum Requirements

  • Operations / Production / Engineering Degree
  • A relevant management qualification would be advantageous
  • Minimum 10 years operations experience
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory or management experience
  • Experience in the chemical/Petro-chemical industry would be advantageous
  • Experience in Bulk Liquid Storage Facility/Terminal Operations
  • Experience in Shipping and Berth Operations would be advantageous
  • Preparation and management of budgets
  • Experience in working within a Unionised environment
  • Good understanding of SHEQ systems (OHSAS 45001, ISO 14001 & ISO 9001)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an effective and efficient operations strategy for all operations within your areas of responsibility
  • Manage performance of labour broker within budget, contractual and other strategic requirements.
  • Provide input from an operations perspective into the company’s business plans                                              
  • Submit monthly management reports as per business requirements
  • Ensure that his/her department has the right structures and resources in place to deliver the necessary operational/business efficiencies
  • Effective and efficient management of all human resources under his/her control with an aim to reduce costs, improve productivity and ensure SHE compliance
  • Ensure that the Revenue budget within his/her areas of responsibility is achieved.
  • Ensure that the profit margin within his/her areas of responsibility is achieved.
  • Develop and manage overall operations cost budget for all operations within his/her control
  • Ensure that all Capex requirements within his/her areas of responsibility are flagged and justified to General Manager for inclusion in the Capex Budget
  • Ensure that all Incidents arising from operations under his/her control is reported, investigated and learnings disseminated.
  • Ensure compliance to OHS Act and other industry applicable legislation
  • Ensure that all legal appointments are in place
  • External and internal audits are complied with and that there are no major findings from these audits
  • To contribute to the development of company sustainability programs to reduce energy consumption, water consumption and waste generation
  • Ensure that the Business Risk Assessment for his/her area of responsibility is completed and reviewed on an annual basis
  • Mentor, coach and develop employees by building individual and team competence to meet set goals and objectives
  • Create and maintain positive workplace relationships and communication
  • Ensure skills developments plan is developed and implemented
  • Ensure employment equity plan is met.
  • Ensure that all IR & ER issues are appropriately and timeously dealt with
  • Ensure compliance with the basic conditions of employment
  • Optimise equipment utilisation to improve operations performance
  • Ensure effective contractor management
  • Ensure that all Operations procedures, standards and work instructions are kept up to date, all employees are trained to these procedures, standards and work instructions and all employees comply with these procedures, standards and work instructions.
  • Ensure operations is optimised in line with the Regional Optimisation Plan
  • Ensure that stock variances are investigated, and corrective/preventative plans put in place prevent future losses of a similar nature.
  • Ensure that all business systems like SAP are properly implemented and utilised
