Job Description
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform analysis of assigned samples in the most accurate, productive and timely way as per the relevant Test Method instruction.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing the routine Fire Assay tasks (weighing, fluxing, fusion, cupelling and dissolution of prills) exactly as per relevant Competence Modules set.
- Liaising with the Supervisor to ensure customer requirements are achieved with regard to the turnaround time commitments and Quality of results.
- Reporting daily production figures and giving detailed explanations for targets not met.
- Assisting in the investigation of any non-conforming work, Client queries and Improvement Requests that would have been raised relating to the Fire Assay process.
- Reporting any apparatus or equipment which is malfunctioning.
- Liaising with the Supervisor in creating worksheets and prioritizing jobs.
- Assisting with section’s workflow planning.
- Assisting in ensuring that required stock levels for Fire Assay are maintained.
- Use SLIM system for data transfer and capturing as required
- Assisting in preparing for Audits and addressing of non-conformances.
- Recording and filing of all equipment records and analysis worksheets for Quality Purposes and future reference.
- Ensuring the most appropriate QC samples are inserted in line with the Global Quality policy.
- Performing duties on all relevant workstations as required by the section’s workload.
- Assisting with control and time keeping administration.
- Ensuring compliance to the Quality Management System (ISO17025 and SANAS requirements).
- Ensuring compliance to the HSE policy of the company.
- Performing any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager / supervisor.
COMPLIANCE & AUTHORITY
- Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
- Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
- Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation.
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics and Science as subjects.
- National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 Years in Fire Assay experience
- Computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System
Required Skills
- Self-motivator
- Must have an appreciable attention to detail.
- Ability to strictly follow and understand instructions.
- Competent technical knowledge of Fire Assay analytical processes
- Must have full understanding of the LIMS system.
- Able to work with technical and management staff.
- Ability to work well in a team situation towards achieving common departmental goals.
- Able to coordinate fire assay activities.
- Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to communicate in English.
- Must be willing to work overtime/flexible hours when necessary.
