PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  • The Planner has the primary responsibility for all forestry Planning related functions (database – spatial/non spatial, incidents, short & long term harvesting plans, scenario analysis, regular and ad hoc analysis and reporting) in the relevant operational area.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERTISE

MIN EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  •     BTech Forestry

TERTIARY: ESSENTIAL

  •     BSc. Forestry (Preferable)   

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a formal forestry role (planning/technical/operational/research) where an aptitude and interest in elements relevant to forestry planning can be demonstrated
  • Experience in a planning position, with demonstrated competency to perform/oversee planning functions such as Enumeration, Tactical Planning, Database (compartment data) Management and GPS of spatial data, as well as experience with relevant systems such as Microforest, GIS and advanced excel is advantageous

RESPONSIBILITIES / KPAS:

  • Effective management of the:
  • Annual and Tactical Planning processes.
  • Monitoring and analysis of actual vs planned yields.
  • Processing and assessing deviations to the harvesting Annual Plan of Operation (APO).
  • Enumeration planning, processing and verification.
  • Financial management of enumerations.
  • Plantation database integrity, including incident & exception reporting.
  • Spatial and non-spatial data editing processes (including GPS work).
  • Conducting database audits (spatial & non-spatial).
  • Overseeing the reporting, database records and monitoring of incidents.
  • Safety performance of contractors.
  • Supporting local operational management regarding planning related matters (such as ad hoc analysis, scenario & report preparation).

JOB COMPETENCIES / ATTRIBUTES/SKILLS – ESSENTIAL

  • Sound understanding of forest mensuration (enumeration)
  • Demonstrate a good grasp of basic statistics and biometry
  • Good interpersonal, organisational, negotiation and problem solving skills 
  • Proven communication skills (verbal and written) in formal and informal settings
  • Innovative, progressive and analytical thinking and adaptability
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised and under pressure
  • Ability to plan and prioritise often unrelated tasks
  • Advanced competence with MS Excel & PowerPoint 
  • Valid EB drivers’ license.
