Requirements :
- A Grade 12 Certificate, Basic qualification (Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, or an equivalent qualification) that allows registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist. Proof of current active registration as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council; with proof of annual payment of fees.
- A Valid Driver’s Licence.
- GRADE 1: A minimum of five (5) years appropriate experience after registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist.
- GRADE 2: A minimum of thirteen (13) years appropriate experience after registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist. Requirements for both grades: Experience in clinical governance bodies e.g. PTC/AMS as well as policy, guidelines and procedures implementation will be added advantage.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and policies relating to Pharmacy, including, but not limited to the GPP, National Health Act, Medicines and Related Substances, Pharmacy and Nursing Acts and the PFMA. Experience in working with evidence-based medicine, STGs and EML and supply chain.
- A good understanding of project management, monitoring and evaluation skills. Pharmacy Management experience. Good communication skills (verbal and written), presentation, interpersonal, problem-solving, planning, organisational, supervisory and strong computer skills (MS Office package).
- Willing to work irregular hours when required. Willing to travel across the province. Must be self-motivated and able to work under pressure and in a team. Candidate may be required to do a practical competency assessment.
Duties :
- Development and review of policies, guidelines and procedures. Coordinate and monitor the roll out of NHI and pharmaceutical projects. Provide support to other Directorates and programmes on pharmaceutical related issues.
- Monitoring and evaluation of pharmaceutical services for compliance, quality and effective service delivery. Develop, use and report on quality improvement plans or intervention to address shortcomings identified and perform site visits and support to institutions where required. Identify risk and risk mitigation strategies with regards to pharmaceutical services and projects.
- Analysis of data for reporting, giving professional input to stakeholders for decision making. Coordinate and participate in the provincial pharmacy and therapeutics committee, pharmacovigilance, and antimicrobial stewardship committees. Be responsible for provincial formulary management and assist with development of district and institutional formularies and medicine availability.
- Perform rational medicine use evaluations in line with STGs and EML. Support institutions with demand planning, budget, and expenditure monitoring to ensure effective utilisation of resources.
- Assist with medicine management and implementation and use of electronic inventory management and dispensing system. Represent pharmaceutical services at relevant meetings and forums and serve on various committees.
- Facilitate operational research in the province and coordinate the annual pharmacist and pharmacist assistant conferences. Perform any legitimate task requested.
