About the Role
This role provides critical technical support for high-RPM patient movement, managing 100% compliance with safety and sanitation standards within provincial facilities. Utilizing ServiceNow for facility incident tracking and specialized health informatics, the porter reduces operational risk in clinical logistics. Their work ensures that logistical data is accurately executed to support patient recovery and maintains the administrative reliability of the provincial health ecosystem.
- Appropriate porter experience in a public health facility.
- Basic knowledge of Infection Prevention Control procedure. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Willingness to work in a team. Ability to work under pressure.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- No payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. Candidates will be subjected to a written/practical and oral assessment. The pool of applications will be considered for vacancies within Central Karoo District, for a period of three months from the date of the advert, provided that the job title, core functions, inherent requirements, and salary level are the same as those of the advertised post.
- Transport of patients. Deliver specimens to laboratories and ensure a safe and hygienic work environment. Accompany walking patients and transport sitting/non-walking patients per trolley or wheelchair between wards and treatment areas.
- Safe transport of patients on trolleys and wheelchairs to and from different departments/wards and assist with loading of patients in/out of ambulances/vehicles. Carry medical and other documentation (patient files, reports, etc) to wards/treatment and other admin areas.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of trolleys, wheelchairs, and working areas and report any defects to trolleys/wheelchairs to the supervisor and reply to requests from wards. Render support services to clinical staff, supervisor and colleagues.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nightshift, weekends, overtime and public holidays. The ability to perform tasks such as lifting patient’s from/onto beds, trolleys and wheelchairs. Willingness to cover shifts in absence of colleagues and to work in all departments /wards in the hospital.
- R 138 486 – R 163 131 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
