Work Description

  1. The candidate will develop new synthesis routes for the preparation of bioactive compounds and radio-therapeutics with known biological activities.
  2. The candidate will perform synthesis of new linkers and attach them to the bioactive compounds.
  3. The candidate will fully characterise the synthesised compounds using various spectrometric and spectroscopic analytical techniques.
  4. The candidate will radiolabel the molecules and perform cell uptake and stability studies.
  5. The candidate will also be responsible for reporting the completed work in group meetings, assisting with mentoring of Masters and PhD student’s.
  6. The candidate will contribute in authoring research reports and publications and presenting at conferences and workshops.
  7. The candidate is expected to publish a minimum of two papers (internally or externally peer reviewed) per year.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. The candidate should hold a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry obtained within the past five years. The candidate should not be older than 45 years at the time of application.
  2. Solid knowledge of organic synthesis reactions e.g. carbon-carbon coupling reactions, amide forming reactions, halogenation reactions, protection and deprotection reactions etc.
  3. Solid knowledge of various analytical techniques such as thin layer chromatography (TLC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, high performance liquid chromatography hyphenated with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy.
  4. Experience in handling radioactivity, molecular modelling and knowledge of some radio-analytical techniques (such as liquid scintillation counter and gamma spectroscopy) and radiation detecting techniques would be an added advantage. 
  5. Minimum of one accepted publication in the last five years with additional publications will also be an added advantage. Publications should be in the area of organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or radiochemistry.
  6. Good English communication skills, both oral and written, are a prerequisite.
