Product Data Engineer II needed at Capitec Bank

About The Role

• Our Product Data Engineering team plays a key role in powering Capitec’s data-driven ecosystem. The team designs and maintains the enterprise data assets that support analytical innovation, business insights, and decision-making across the bank. We’re a group of technically skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented data professionals who value precision and focused collaboration. You’ll be joining a team that thrives on solving complex data challenges using modern cloud technologies like AWS, Redshift, and Airflow, while maintaining a strong foundation in governance, standards, and data quality. 
• We’re looking for an experienced Product Data Engineer to help shape, lead, and deliver high-quality data solutions within the central team that supports the highly used enterprise data assets, with engagement across the enterprise with product line teams in a federated model. This role also involves helping to guide junior engineers, leading technical implementations, and ensuring that our data products are robust, scalable, and aligned with Capitec’s data strategy. 

What We Are Looking For
Experience & Education: 

• 4–6 years’ proven experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or Management Information Systems (MIS). 
• A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Data Analysis, or Data Engineering. 
• Experience with big data technologies supporting a conformed warehouse (Redshift), as well as relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.) and ETL/orchestration tools. 
• Proven exposure to cloud environments (preferably AWS) and related technologies. 
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of dimensional modelling. 

Knowledge & Skills: 

• Understanding SDLC, ETL, and data pipeline lifecycle. 
• Experience with data transformation, testing, and quality assurance practices. 
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a technical team. 
• Experience in the banking or financial services industry is advantageous.
