About the Role
Specializing in orthopedic and outpatient care, this nurse provides advanced clinical interventions and diagnostic support. Utilizing specialized medical technology and Oracle-based patient tracking systems, the nurse ensures compliance with orthopedic health standards and minimizes operational risk. Their expertise in managing patient data and post-operative recovery plans is critical for the rehabilitation of patients in a high-volume outpatient environment.
- Basic R425 qualification ( Degree/Diploma in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A Post basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Orthopaedic Nursing.
- Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition
- that proof of application for registration to register with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview.
- This concession is only applicable to candidates who apply for the first time for registration in the post-basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Orthopaedic Nursing.
- The pool of applications will be considered for vacancies within the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services, for a period of three months from the date of the advert, provided that the job title, core functions, inherent requirements, and salary level are the same as those of the advertised post.
- Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
- At least 10 years of this period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience in specific specialty after obtaining the one-year post- basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Orthopaedic Nursing.
- Provide an optimal, holistic, specialized Nursing Care within set standards and within a professional, legal framework as a Professional Specialist Nurse in Orthopaedic Nursing. Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders.
- Utilise human, material and physical resources efficiently and effectively. Participate in research and training and development of community, staff and students to achieve optimal health care and rehabilitation of orthopaedic patients. Assist with administrative duties, e.g. data collation and reporting.
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of nursing and health service-related acts, legislation, policies and practices. Problem solving, report writing, liaison and facilitation skills. Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and use of Internet Ability to lift and turn patients, stand for long hours and lift heavy equipment.
- To work shifts including weekends, public holidays and night duty. To rotate to other units within the Orthopaedics department.
- Grade 1: R 476 367 – R 559 548 per annum, Grade 2: R 583 989 – R 723 954 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
