PURPOSE OF POSITION
- To Provide age-appropriate patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Practice within your scope of practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Caring for patients with acute conditions – building relationships and responding to their physical and emotional needs, while delivering effective care.
- Administering patients’ medications and treatments – and monitoring results.
- Dealing with the specific symptoms of mental illness, de-escalating stressful situations, and helping patients overcome challenges.
- Interacting with patients’ families and other care staff – offering advice and information on patients’ conditions.
- Preparing and maintaining patients records, producing care plans and risk assessments.
- Organizing group therapy sessions, including social and artistic events, aimed at promoting patients’ mental recovery.
- Lead and supervise the team.
- Attend to patients complaints.
- Provide safe, quality patient care within the ward/unit.
- Comply with SANC and stakeholder legislation.
COMPETENCIES (The following will be advantageous)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
(Educational Qualifications & Experience)
- Matric is essential.
- Diploma/degree in Nursing science/ related to.
- Must be Psych trained.
- Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.
- Must have two or more years of experience as a Professional Nurse in a Psychiatric Ward.
- Computer literate MS Word & Excel.
- Must be prepared to do shift-work (Night shift / Day Shift).
