For Appointment as a Professor:

  • A PhD in Physics.
  • A minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution or 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A proven research record with at least 15 publications in accredited journals, including book chapters and at least one book publication.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising at least four Master’s or Doctoral students to completion.

For Appointment as an Associate Professor:

  • A PhD in Physics.
  • A minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution or 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A strong research portfolio with at least 10 publications in accredited journals, including book chapters and a book publication.
  • Proven supervision of at least four Master’s or Doctoral students.

For Appointment as a Senior Lecturer:

  • A PhD in Physics.
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution or 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 publications in accredited journals, including book chapters and a book publication.
  • Evidence of supervision of at least five Honours-level postgraduate students.

Duties

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in Classical and Quantum Mechanics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Conduct and supervise physics laboratory experiments.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the University’s teaching, learning, and academic policies to effectively carry out academic responsibilities.
  • Engage in individual and collaborative research projects, contributing to the department’s research output.
  • Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and academic forums.
  • Supervise Honours, MSc, and PhD research projects within the department.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative research partnerships within the University and with external institutions.
  • Contribute to a positive departmental culture, demonstrating teamwork and collegiality.
  • Participate in curriculum development and ensure compliance with the University’s academic standards and quality assurance processes.
  • Support the Head of Department with administrative responsibilities, including committee participation, timetabling, admissions, and orientation of first-year students.
  • Assist in organizing field trips and staff development workshops.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effectively communicate complex and conceptual ideas to students and colleagues with varying levels of expertise.
