Duties and responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with academic staff manage the curriculum of the Professional Masters Programme (Structured) to align with the competency requirements of the professional body Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPSCA) and the expectations of employers/industry.
  • Provide general leadership in the effective offering of the Professional Masters Programme, including the monitoring of throughput rates, and poorly performing students and coordinating the implementation of remedial actions to address these.
  • Provide general leadership in the effective offering of the Professional Masters Programme, including providing a statistical analysis of student evaluations/satisfaction and successful Industrial Psychologist registration with HPCSA.
  • In collaboration with HOD/Deputy HOD provide a support structure to deal with student complaints regarding any aspect of the Professional Masters Programme and devising solutions.
  • Liaise with students and academic staff that lecture at Professional Masters Programme to determine appropriate support required for students (e.g. referrals to Student Counselling).
  • Build/manage relationships with the potential internship providers (as per HPCSA regulations).
  • Support the process of allocating interns to internship sites.
  • Allocate interns to academic supervisors for their internship as per requirements of HPCSA.
  • Monitor the academic supervisor for the HPCSA internship regarding their record keeping of quarterly evaluations of interns.
  • Monitor the industry supervisor for the HPCSA internship regarding their record keeping of quarterly evaluations of interns.
  • Take responsibility for the amendments of internship programmes, supervision requirements, HPCSA requirements, quarterly reports, and relevant internship documentation.
  • Share information with master’s students and academic lecturers about resources available at the university (bursaries, conference funding, workshops, international exchange programmes etc).
  • Inform master’s students and academic lecturers of critical due dates e.g. (scientific review presentations, ethical clearance, dissertation submission for examination etc), and track progress.
  • Provide logistical support to academic lecturers in coordinating various academic modules within the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Ensure that the Professional Masters Programme is offered in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
  • Provide support to academic lecturers to ensure the academic quality of their modules on the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Collate and provide information as required for the continued accreditation / ongoing monitoring of the Professional Masters Programme by the professional body (HPCSA) and coordinate the monitoring visits undertaken by this body.
  • In collaboration with the academic staff in the department, provide action plans for any developmental areas advised after accreditation visits by HPCSA.
  • Implement applicable quality management policies and regulations of the University.
  • Build/manage relationships with the professional bodies that accredit the Professional Masters Programme (including HPCSA & SABPP).
  • Contribute to the marketing of the Professional Masters Programme to prospective students.
  • Promote and share professional registration opportunities regarding student psychologists to current students.
  • Provide academic advice to students registered for and prospective students considering the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Coordinate the admissions and the selection process to the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Oversee the registration process of students registered for the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Take responsibility for the amendments of rule books, timetables, etc for the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Implement applicable policy and regulatory requirements of the University as it pertains to academic advice and registrations.
  • Be part of the Faculty Research and Higher Degrees and Ethic Committees
  • Provide support regarding the submission and post-examination process of mini dissertations of Professional Masters students.
  • Assist with summarising the feedback from the examiner’s feedback for the structured masters.
  • In collaboration with the vice dean of research, would be responsible for creating and implementing specific research-related interventions for the Department of Industrial Psychology.
  • Respond to general queries regarding the Professional Masters Programme.
  • Organise industry exposure for students through guest lectures e.g. starting an independent practice as an industrial psychologist or to appraise students of their work as industrial psychologists.
  • Ensure a well-stocked and appropriately controlled psychometric test library.
  • Be part of the planning and organising for all research-related activities within the faculty, such as research day, 3 min thesis, training and workshops, as requested by the vice dean of research
  • Assist with the internationalisation and engagement of all research-related activities

Inherent requirements:

  • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Industrial Psychology Department at the University of the Free State (UFS).
  • Registered with the HPCSA (attach proof).
