About the Role

This high-RPM clinical role manages mental health data and ensures 100% compliance with HPCSA standards and provincial clinical protocols. Utilizing ServiceNow for patient workflow orchestration and specialized health informatics, the psychologist mitigates operational risk in high-pressure public health environments. Their role leverages data-driven diagnostics to optimize clinical outcomes and ensures the technical integrity of the provincial psychiatric service network.

  • Ensure that mental health services include treatment, prevention, promotion and protection of mental health care users and other vulnerable groups through relevant intervention programs and strategies.
  • Ensure that quality mental health services are provided according to professional standards and ethical principles. Establish Referral pathways and coordination with all stakeholders. Include Suicide and Substance use disorders prevention. Inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary collaboration and coordination.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and support to lay health workers and Registered Counsellors, as part the sub district and district mental health teams.
  • Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. 1 Year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
  • Grade 2: A Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. Minimum of 9 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
  • Grade 3: A Minimum of 16 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. A Minimum of 17 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in Sout
  • Knowledge and/or experience in counselling, psychometric assessments, and identification of mental health challenges. Work within your professional scope of practice and know when to refer for more specialized mental health interventions, must be abreast of the Mental Health Care Act and other laws and policies pertaining to the field and have a sound knowledge of professional ethics. Computer literacy (i.e., MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel). Good intra- and interpersonal skills aimed at professional relational development, maintenance of good professional relations and effective conflict resolution. Adaptable and innovative in a high-pressured environment and to work independently and in different clinical settings.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and proof of current registration with the HPCSA in the category Clinical Psychologist.

Career Growth & Education

A Master’s degree in Psychology and active registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical or Counseling Psychologist are mandatory academic foundations. Career progression from Grade 1 to Grade 3 is based on years of experience, moving toward Chief Psychologist or Clinical Director roles. Salary & Financial Insight
