Job Description

Welding Inspections:

  • Perform visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) to inspect welds, ensuring they meet specified codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure that welding procedures, materials, and equipment are appropriate for the job and comply with the project’s technical requirements.
  • Conduct final inspections of completed welds and evaluate them for conformance to specifications.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate inspection reports, records, and logs of completed inspections and tests.
  • Document welding defects or non-conformances and ensure they are communicated and addressed promptly.
  • Ensure that all relevant quality records are up to date and properly filed for future audits or reference.

Quality Control Monitoring:

  • Monitor the performance of welding operations and ensure compliance with welding procedures and work instructions.
  • Provide support and guidance to the welding team to ensure quality practices are followed.
  • Identify potential quality issues early in the process and recommend corrective actions.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure that all welding activities adhere to applicable codes, such as AWS (American Welding Society), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), and ISO standards.
  • Maintain familiarity with national and international welding standards and ensure their correct application.
  • Support audits and inspections conducted by third-party organizations or regulatory authorities.

Safety:

  • Adhere to safety standards and ensure safe working conditions during welding operations.
  • Promote a safety-conscious culture and ensure all welding activities are performed with proper safety precautions.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations related to welding processes or equipment.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and welding teams to ensure alignment on quality control standards and expectations.
  • Communicate inspection findings and potential risks clearly to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Boilermaking – or Welding certification or equivalent from a recognized institution (required).
  • Additional qualifications such as CSWIP (Certified Welding Inspector) or AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification is preferred.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in welding inspection, quality control, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of welding techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, ISO).
  • Experience with visual inspection, radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, and other NDT methods.
