Job Description    

  • To develop, implement and maintain Quality and Food Safety policies and systems according to best practise and legislative requirements
  • To ensure customer quality and food safety requirements are adhered to
  • Manage internal audit and compliance to internal RCL policies and practises from a QA, FS & Technical Innovation
  • Ensure key customer engagement and relationships are managed effectively

Minimum Requirements    

  • Degree in Food Science or Technology
  • 10-year experience in managing Quality and Food Safety Systems (FSSC 22000, IBL, BRC etc).
  • Systems Auditing experience.
  • Customer management experience
  • Baking and or flour related knowledge
  • High risk & perishable/short shelf-life product experience
  • MS Office

Duties & Responsibilities    

Food Safety Systems

  • Maintain and enhance current Food Safety systems to ensure compliance to internal specifications and legal requirements
  • Constantly investigate developments in Food Safety trends locally and abroad and pro-actively implement or adapt processes or systems to ensure world class standards
  • Maintain FSSC 22000 certification is and successfully audited annually
  • Ensure the WW IBL system is maintained, and sites achieve Green Status
  • Drive excellence in Food Safety across all sites: Complaint management, NCR management and trending
  • Develop CAPEX budgets related to Food Safety
  • Develop and manage the operating budget for the FS function

Technical Innovation

  • Lead technical innovation in the facilities to drive improved quality and process efficiencies
  • Collaborate with RCL teams and WW to identify technical challenges in factory and drive solutions to resolve
  • Lead research into fit for purpose equipment and ingredients that can enhance product quality and resolve challenges
  • Investigate and drive new in factory development by researching international trends
  • Build relationships with external suppliers to assist in improving in factory process
  • Assist with commissioning of new equipment and ensuring that optimal use and quality is achieved
  • Constantly investigate developments in Food Safety trends locally and abroad and pro-actively implement or adapt processes or systems to ensure world class standards

Leadership

  • Lead the Quality and Food Safety teams to meet the strategic goals of RCL Foods
  • Work together with the Speciality Executive Team to develop strategic goals and targets for Quality and Food Safety & technical innovation
  • Ensure Quality and Food Safety teams are motivated and engaged to drive the culture and compliance expected of the function
  • Ensure the Quality and Food Safety teams are resourced and trained to meet the strategic goals of the division
  • Be confident in presenting and reporting on the Quality and Food Safety function to the Executive and to the RCL SHERQ group function Executive
  • Ensure there is a strong succession plan in place to ensure sustainability and business continuity
  • Develop and implement the best QA/FS structure
  • Lead customer discussions in regard to quality and food safety related issues including Woolworths

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Essential to develop and maintain customer relationships at the appropriate level of seniority
  • Woolworths customer engagement is critical to ensure clear communication and reporting lines
  • Key cross functional relationships to be developed and maintained within RCL Foods
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers together with RCL Group Sourcing
  • Represent RCL Foods on various industry forums and with government bodies when required

Cost Management

  • Ensure the QA/FS function is managed effectively from an operating cost perspective. This includes laboratory costs, manpower costs, product and raw material testing costs, root cause analysis costs and complaint analysis costs
  • Effective CAPEX budgeting
  • Ensure the laboratory is managed and equipment is maintained

KPI’s

  • FSSC 22000 certified across all plants with minimal findings
  • IBL Green audit scores at all Specialty sites
  • Laboratory proficiency scores maintained
  • Costs within BP
  • QC and FS teams resourced correctly and trained
  • Reporting accurate and relevant
  • Customer complaints trending in-line with business expectations
