Job Purpose:

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual, commercial, and financial side of site construction projects. 
  • The professional quantity surveyor shall be concerned with commercial contracts, procurement strategies, measuring and costing of the construction projects.
  • This will cover a wide range of activities which include cost planning, value engineering, value management, feasibility studies, cost benefit analysis, life-cycle costing, risk analysis, tendering, valuation, change control, dispute resolution, claims management, project management, cost estimation, contractual contracting and value for money assessments.

Responsibilities / Duties / Job Skills:

Pre-Contract:

  • Procurement Support: Assist with bid documents, bidder lists, and recommendations for contract awards.
  • Measurement and Pricing: Use contract documents to measure and price accurately.
  • Documentation Preparation: Prepare Bills of Quantities, preliminaries, contract conditions, and other tender documents.
  • Contract Negotiations: Provide inputs for negotiations and prepare subcontract documents.

Post-Contract:

  • Commercial Support: Assist Project Management with commercial aspects and inform them of risks.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Keep records of contractual documents and ensure bonds are managed.
  • Cash Flow and Cost Control: Prepare cash flow schedules and control costs.
  • Contractual Advice: Advise on variations, claims, and requirements; ensure contract completeness and validity.
  • Financial Management: Prepare financial statements, interim payment applications, and final accounts.

Subcontract Management:

  • Contractual Advice: Advise on claims and variations; maintain records.
  • Bond Management: Ensure bonds are managed.
  • Claims Resolution: Resolve financial claims and prepare interim payment certificates.
  • Final Account Management: Measure and prepare final accounts.

Specific Experience Required:

  • Personality Traits: Creative, positive, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Engineering and construction contracts, contracting models, problem-solving, minimal supervision.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Cost Management: Price forecasting, tender document preparation, budget adjustment, contractor procurement, and work valuation.
  • Logistics and Asset Management: Oversee logistics for assets and support cost centers.

Profile
Qualifications

  • B.Eng. or B.Sc /B.Sc Hons/M.Sc degree specializing in Quantity Surveying 
  • Proven track record 
  • Understand core business processes and associated technical solutions
  • Have an innovative and disruptive mindset, constantly looking forward
  • Training and exposure to Contract Management such as NEC 3 or equivalent.
  • University degree/diploma in quantity surveying from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification related practical experience on large projects with specific experience on industrial projects.
  • Proven experience in the industrial engineering is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of pre and post contract administration
