Department Description
- To provide and manage Facilities maintenance issues in all student residences at the university and always ensure safety and compliance
Brief Description
Responsibilities:
- Set out performance Outputs and measurements for each direct report (Handymen team)
- Management of your team as per the university’s HR policies and processes.
- Formulate a general scope of works for any minor- to medium size refurbishment project
- Monitor budgets for maintenance work, manage external contractors and report on any variations.
- Liaising with stakeholders regarding the execution of maintenance and / or other work assigned to the facilities management office.
- Supervise your team in a manner that will enable effective and efficient customer-focused service.
- Ensure that the areas that have been maintained or repaired by any of the maintenance teams provide a safe and fit for purpose environment for use by the university community.
- Ensure effective supervision of service providers as per the agreed scope of work.
Minimum Requirements:
- National Diploma or equivalent in-Built Environment particularly in architecture and/or construction or Building Management
- Project and Facilities management Certificate will be an added advantage
Required Years of Work-Related Experience:
- 5 -8 years in the facilities management/building maintenance field dealing with general building technical issues including managing minor to medium size refurbishment projects
- 3-5 years of management experience of Handymen team and or any of the building trades. (i.e. building fabrics etc.)
Desirable Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
Key Competencies:
- High level of Computer Literacy
- Ability to measure and draw as-built drawings in any of the computer drafting packages
- Ability to put together a general scope of works for minor refurbishment projects
- Good leadership skills
- Building Audits Experience
- Building Maintenance Experience
- Management of outsourced service providers
- Asset Management
- Manage risk and have a good understanding of maintenance strategies

- Any other building-related legislation
