Job Description

  • The Retail Area Manager is responsible for leading and developing a portfolio of stores to deliver exceptional customer experiences, strong commercial results, and consistent execution of brand standards. This role oversees store managers, drives sales performance, ensures effective merchandising, manages stock and shrinkage, and maintains high operational standards across all locations. A deep understanding of footwear retail, including fit, product knowledge, inventory dynamics, and seasonal trends is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of stores within the region.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Store Managers to ensure consistent delivery of customer service and brand standards.
  • Analyse sales reports, KPIs, and profitability metrics to identify opportunities for growth and efficiency.
  • Ensure visual merchandising, stock levels, and product presentation meet company guidelines.
  • Implement operational policies and procedures to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Onboard, and train store leadership teams.
  • Support new store openings, refurbishments, and regional initiatives.
  • Champion loss prevention strategies and uphold health & safety standards.
  • Build a positive, collaborative culture across the area.

Job Requirements

  • Matric/Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as an Area Manager or Senior Store Manager in footwear, fashion, or a related retail sector. Experience in footwear is highly advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness with a track record of delivering sales growth.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of retail policies and procedures.
  • Solid understanding of sales KPIs, stock management, and profit drivers
  • Ability to analyse reports and implement action plans to improve business results
  • Knowledge of visual merchandising, brand standards, and customer experience expectations
  • Ability to work Retail hours (weekends and public holidays).
  • Highly organised, analytical, ability to  handle multiple deadlines and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build positive relationships across various levels of the business
  • Valid code 8 driving license, own reliable transport and willingness to travel regularly.

A degree in Retail Management or a BCom in Business Management is the preferred academic foundation.
