About the Role

This role manages the high-RPM operations of retail fuel sites, balancing commercial performance with strict environmental safety data. Utilizing SAP for fuel inventory and ServiceNow for facility incident management, the manager ensures 100% compliance with health, safety, and environment (HSE) protocols. Their oversight minimizes operational risk associated with fuel handling and drives business value by optimizing non-fuel retail revenue and customer loyalty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve and exceed stated objectives (EBITDA, OPEX, CAPEX) for Retail business. Ensure best results by coaching and supporting staff with structured development of retail networks through growth and/or optimization. Consistently benchmark and positively challenge the organization to maximize results and opportunities. Ensure customers are delighted by interaction with Puma retail services.
  • Achieve and ensure HSE culture is exhibited and practiced in the running of retail operations and in accordance with Puma standards.
  • Achieve and exceed all projects assigned as much as possible to reinforce and expend opportunities with partnership to more opportunities in the country. Ensure locations, layouts, offerings and operating platforms are world class in quality and optimized for the market. Comply with partnership requirement to open best locations in multiple geographical locations without limiting logistical needs for the future. Assist with the structure set up on all required levels.
  • Deploy best practice and the tools identified with management for administration and delivery of Network Planning and Channel management needs. Align engineering and maintenance needs with consistent and complimentary policies, processes and tools.
  • In collaboration with those responsible for Network Planning, pricing, sales & marketing in the region, define sales profile, targets, KPIs, campaign and drive the Organisation to deliver the company retail strategy in:
  • Volume and margins (fuels, lubes, cards)
  • Site profitability
  • Fuel card sales contribution to sales
  • Operation excellence
  • Lead contract negotiations and contract management execution
  • Global sales campaign and motivation programs
  • Develop sales training framework (attitudes, skills and competencies)
  • Manage relationships with internal and external support and grow staff capabilities
  • Set up process for divesting and discarding the tail end company owned stations and real estate in assigned location.
  • Lead process of network development to grow the retail network profitably as per set targets.

Requirements:

Experience: 

  • University degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related fields
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in senior management in similar positions or relevant field
  • Significant retail experience in Downstream
  • Proven record of good project management skills
  • Solid downstream business knowledge

Salary & Financial Insight

Monthly salaries for retail managers at Puma Energy range from R35,000 to R55,000, plus performance-linked bonuses. Strategic financial planning should involve a focus on income protection insurance and aggressive retirement fund contributions early in the career.
