Safety Officer needed at Bidvest Tank Terminals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and multi-task
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Must be able to work under pressure
• Proficient on MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point
• Knowledge of SHE and fire systems.
• Knowledge of SHEQ systems (ISO45001, ISO14001 & ISO9001)

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12
• SAMTRAC
• National Diploma in Safety Management
• A relevant process of Fire Prevention certification/qualification
• 3 years’ experience in a similar role preferably within the Chemical and Petro-chemical industry

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct daily contractor audits and inspection.
• Ensure that Safety, Risk and PPE assessments are conducted as and when required.
• Inspect all firefighting and suppression equipment to ensure compliance
• Direct and participate in PIMAD (Fire evacuation drills) activities.
• Develop strategies to mitigate fire risks.
• Compile and maintain safety and emergency equipment register.
• Monitor contractor safety performance and compile relevant reports.
• Participate in the selection, training and motivation of assigned fire team members
• Participate in incident investigation and report on the cause of all incidents
• Conduct daily site visits and ensure all non-conformances are corrected immediately.
• Ensure adherence to the OHSACT by all BTT employees and contractors.
• Conduct weekly SHE stand-downs.
• Supervision of Safety Watchers.
• Guide Safety Representatives in carrying out their duties and issuing reports.
