The role:

Conduct and translate the annual Life of Mine plan into a detailed 2-year budget for the operation. Oversee the detailed design and sequencing of activities to be performed by the operation’s function, aimed at facilitating the execution of the 2-year budget in the 3 – 12-month window. Apply production accounting, activity tracking and the supply of management information together with the rigorous verification and reporting of actual outcomes and results achieved. Conduct the annual review and declaration of Coal Reserves for the operation.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage the Mine Planning section on the operation
  • Ensure legal requirements, group standards and policies and codes of practices are implemented and adhered to;
  • Develop and manage the Mine planning section’s Financial Budget
  • Effective People management, ensuring that Mine planning roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability
  • Assist with annual Life of Mine Planning and Budget Planning, integration of planning and scheduling with operations and optimisation of Coal Reserves and reconciliations
  • Provide Technical expertise to production teams and production meetings
  • Application of Best Practices
  • Assess Risks and develop appropriate remedial actions for the Life of Mine Plan
  • Ensure that costs allocated for project mine planning tasks within specified operation are controlled within the prescribed budget and timelines

Requirements:

  • B Eng. / BSc / BTech in Mining Engineering with Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (MMC), OR
  • Relevant mining related tertiary qualification (e.g., Masters Mineral Economics, Masters Mineral Resources, etc), OR
  • Motivation supporting Recognition for Prior Learning and Experience
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience with either 2 years appointed Assistant Pit Superintendent in production OR 2 years appointed Mining Activity Engineer
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Operational value chain in Opencast / Underground Operations
  • An in-depth knowledge of legislation relating to the mining industry. E.g., Mine, Health and Safety Act, MPRDA, Environmental Legislation, etc
  • Solid knowledge of relevant Mine Planning software
  • A good knowledge of Mining, Value Based Management and Asset Optimisation
  • An in-depth knowledge of various mining methods and mining technologies
  • Sound understanding of SHE standards and policies including ISO 18000 and ISO 14001
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

  • Underground Coal mining production experience
  • Advanced written report skills
  • Registration with relevant mining industry professional association
  • Sound knowledge of Seriti’s Operational Codes of practices, policies, and procedures
