As Section Manager Production Geology & Ore Controlyou will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Safety, Health, and Environment
- Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers and contractor can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
- Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance.
- Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
Performance and Delivery:
Production Geology:
- Manage the delivery of predicted material classifications following KIO standards and within the designated timeframe.
- Add value to the prediction of blocks by providing insightful remarks on selective mining and geology.
- Ensure that the graphic representation of the predicted blocks meets set standards and is clear and legible.
- Conduct risk assessments on predicted blocks in compliance with established standards.
- Establish practical loading dimensions and orientations for predicted material demarcations on final blast blocks.
- Manage the accurate and timely material classification on final blast blocks based on grade and tonnage.
- Deliver the final material classifications in compliance with KIO standards and within the designated timeframe.
- Ensure that the graphic representation of the final blocks complies with the set standards and is legible and clear.
- Implement value-based ore control parameters during the block demarcation to ensure practical loading dimensions and orientations.
- Advise Grade Control on the best value ore destinations derived from the Value-based ore control demarcations.
- Make blast movement adjustments on block demarcations to ensure optimal mining practices and conditions
- Reconcile the resource and grade control nodes in geological reconciliation to ensure they align.
- Investigate and explain differences between resource and grade control nodes during geological reconciliation.
- Coordinate grade control infill drilling on the mine to ensure adequate coverage in the mine’s monthly and yearly plans.
- Complete drilling planning timeously and communicate it to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure an adequate budget and resources are allowed for drilling and measure drilling compliance according to the budget, month plan, and year plan to meet the required standard.
- Plan, coordinate and execute various MRM projects to ensure optimum mining practices and conditions.
- Monitor project status and progress and recommend alternatives when obstacles arise.
- Adhere to project timelines and budgets and manage deviations accordingly.
- Investigate the viability of all newly suggested projects before registering them as a project.
Ore Control:
- Ensure consultation with the short-term planning, Sishen plants, logistics, and marketing to optimise the ore reserve.
- Develop a feed strategy and plan to ensure delivery of on-specification iron ore products.
- Align marketing efforts with the delivery plan to meet market requirements.
- Integrate the production process to optimise efficiency and quality control.
- Manage budget and costs to ensure profitability and sustainability.
People Management:
- Optimise human resources in a way that the section delivers maximum output.
- Ensure work ethics is of such a nature that workers continuously strive towards improving their performance.
- This role is in the Discovery & Geosciences (GEO) NC at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager Geology.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- B–Geology or BEng Mining or BEng Metallurgy or BEng Industrial (NQF7)
- Registered member (full) of SACNASP/ECSA
- SA Drivers License Code B
Experience
- 6-8 years of relevant experience in production geology and ore control.
- Geoscientific understanding to guide mining/production activities for productivity and quality targets across multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge in managing finances, labour, and projects, analysing critical performance data, and implementing improvements.
- Proactive risk identification, reporting, management, and testing/implementation of safety and health solutions to ensure a safe and secure mining environment
- Understand the implications of safety and health risks on Group objectives and risk levels, engineering solutions, embedding standards, and promoting local ownership of risk management to mitigate such risks.
- Knowledge of safe operational practices and their importance in the mining industry.
