ROLE DESCRIPTION:  

  • Reporting to the General Manager, the purpose of this role is to manage and co-ordinate the activities of the security function at the operation to ensure maximum product protection at the lowest cost according to organisational objectives

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute security plan to deliver business objectives, aligned with robust business plan and client requirements.                  
  • Conduct ongoing audits of security procedures, practices, and technologies to ensure alignment with best practices, and to enable effective mitigation of potential losses.                      
  • Provide assurance on the adequacy of the protective measures in place at the operation.                          
  • Responsible to ensure employees awareness with security practices with emphasis on VPSHR.                              
  • Provide input into the departmental budget. Manage the budget for the area of responsibility.  Responsible for the generation of cost saving ideas.                       
  • Adhere to Company financial management systems, principles, practices, policies and procedures.                        
  • Provide Security expertise and skills to the Operation; advising on Security solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the operation.                              
  • Ensure capacity and bench strength of functional talent pool by coordinating, directing and leading Security talent in area of responsibility.                              
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders on Security related matters, and support the operation on Security related engagement.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system within the Operation.   
  • Ensure that all Security reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.               
  • Monitor and evaluate performance against established strategies, frameworks, systems and programme, and identify and advise on opportunities for improvement to provide assurance to Management.                        
  • Participate in a sustainable process to identify, assess and rank Security risk as these relate to the Operation, in order to promote a security and risk-aware culture, ensure that any potential impact is understood, and facilitate effective decision making, Security risk mitigation and provide this as input into the ERM program.                         
  • Contribute to the identification, analysis and interpretation of Security risks within the Operation and contribute to the design and implementing of strategies and systems to mitigate risk and to prevent and reduce loss of the operation’s assets. Provide this as input into the ERM program.                    
  • Model behaviour that is consistent with the Company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Vision and Values.                 
  • Responsible for HSEQ processes and measures in the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Security Risk Management OR B Tech in Security Risk Management OR Advanced Diploma in Security Management OR related field.
  • PSIRA Grade A.
  • Fire Arm competent for business purposes.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ security management experience. 
  • Computer Literacy and MS Office Suite (Intermediate).
  • Valid drivers’ license.

ADVANTAGEOUS:

  • Management Development Programme (MDP) or equivalent qualification.
  • Financial Management for Non-financial Managers.
  • Knowledge and experience of budgeting and budget processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in report writing.

OTHER SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:

  • Have knowledge and skill in liaising and networking with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the interpretation of crime threat analysis.             
  • Demonstrate the ability to draft an OPEX and CAPEX budget, and manage forecasted expenditure to reach security objectives that is budget reliant.
  • Apply security audit techniques, in order to identify security weaknesses and to calculate a backlog in security and vulnerability factors. Be able to calculate weaknesses in the security system, identify risks and measurements to ensure compliance.   
  • Having knowledge and skill of company procedures, policies, regulations and agreements.
  • Provide a motivated cost-effective solution to crime risks by demonstrating industry related knowledge of security risk management.
