Purpose of Job

  • Co-ordinate financial reporting requirements in the business units for Capital projects and Fixed assets. Manage and provide a comprehensive accounting services, relating to (incl.) project/lease/interest capitalisation accounting in the day-to-day execution of financial related activities. Ensure that sound financial management and reporting practices are implemented and applied in the Business and maintain a sound financial reporting environment relating to capital projects and fixed assets. Ensure that effective, accurate and timely reporting is done to all stakeholders. Ensure compliance to company projects & fixed asset policies, accounting standards and adherence to all governance requirements.

Key Accountabilities
Effectively manage the required financial accounting transactions and reporting relating to:

  • Actively manage allocated project portfolio, ensuring timely risk assessment, follow up and capitalisation of capital projects, including engagement with project managers etc.
  • Assist and take part in capital governance meeting to determine the nature of the project and assist in the review of capital allocation submissions
  • Preparation the lease accounting calculations/reconciliations – including budgeting, forecasting and evaluation of potential leases for inclusion in portfolio
  • Actively manage the interest capitalisation portfolio – including budgeting, forecasting, impairment and evaluation of whether projects are qualifying assets or not and the documentation thereof.
  • Preparation of precious metals calculations/reconciliation and schedules with the required tax calculations/schedules
  • Preparation of IVC reconciliations and schedules
  • Preparation of yearly schedule for Standardised measurement for oil and gas (SMOG).
  • Preparation of bi-annual commitments splits between Energy and Chemicals
  • Prepare relevant and timeous financial management information – monthly reporting
  • Exercise relevant SOX controls in area of responsibility
  • Timely resolution of queries and assistance with ad hoc requests
  • Update of relevant procedures, policies and works instructions
  • Provide assistance to manager in the identification of resolution of complex accounting matters and accounting treatment
  • Presenting applicable RCP papers to the team to ensure knowledge sharing of event in other business units.
  • Year end and half year end deliverables.

Formal Education

  • University Bachelor’s Degree (B Com/B Compt. Accounting)

Min Experience

  • 6 years of relevant experience (project and fixed assets environment incl. lease accounting)
