Appointment Minimum Requirements: 

  • BProc and/or LLB (Attorney or Advocate) 
  • 3 years’ relevant experience  

Primary Function:  

  • Provide strategic guidance and policy to achieve legal compliance and good governance in all transactions undertaken by City Power.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor regulatory environment to identify new applicable regulatory items and amendments to existing legislation. Analyse applicable regulatory items to identify and interpret specific compliance requirements. Provide advice in respect of regulatory items 
  • Identify which draft Bills and draft subordinate legislation are gazetted for public comment. Circulate draft Bills and draft subordinate legislation to relevant business units. Consult with affected business units on draft regulatory items to solicit comments or further engagements. Coordinate and compile written comments on draft Bills and draft subordinate legislation.
  • Ensure timely submission of written comments to Regulatory Authorities and/or relevant Stakeholders. Tracking of Government gazettes. Manage risks occasioned by litigation by: Promptly responding to all litigation matters for and against the organisation.
  • Managing all legal documents and court processes on behalf of the organisation. Analysing cases in order to provide legal advice/opinion and make recommendations on the prospects of success. Instructing panel Attorneys to defend cases brought against the organisation. Instructing panel Attorneys institute legal proceedings on behalf of the organisation. Attending to consultation with panel Attorneys and Advocates.
  • Facilitating consultations between responsible business units and panel Attorneys and/or Advocates. Following up with responsible business units to ensure requested information is submitted timeously to panel Attorneys. Collate information submitted by responsible business units to ensure accuracy and relevance. 
  • Consider the legality of the recommendations in the investigation reports and advise on the implementation of such. 
  • Drafting of legal opinions. 
  • Receiving and perusing legal opinions provided by Panel Attorneys and /or Advocates and interpreting it to the end user department. 
  • Review court decisions and advise the organisation accordingly. .Pro-actively managing legal risks to reduce unnecessary legal costs.
