RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidates’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Coordination of accessible formal assessments for students with disabilities:
- Coordinating the process of accessible formal assessments for students with disabilities within the Access, Disability and Inclusion Services (ADIS), and liaising with faculties and professional services departments;
- Providing input and support to academic and professional services staff regarding the implementation of concessions approved for assessments for students with disabilities;
- Coordinating and facilitating the administration of all assessments (tests and examinations) with concessions throughout the academic year;
- Consulting and providing advice on academic adjustments and reasonable accommodation with regards to student’s academic programmes;
- Implementing skills development interventions for students with disabilities;
IT / digital accessibility:
- Completing administration and maintenance of the ADIS’ specialised equipment;
- Overseeing usage of equipment by students in computer laboratories in order to prevent misuse;
- Providing input and support to lecturers regarding the facilitation of Academic Information management for students with disabilities;
Awareness and education:
- Conducting orientation with academics regarding students with disabilities;
- Developing and presenting pro-active workshops, training sessions and interventions that will aid and promote understanding within the UP community of students with disabilities;
- Contributing and participating in First Year Experience activities (including the orientation week);
Student support- Promotion of accessibility and inclusivity:
- Identifying barriers to success, and creating a plan to support students with disabilities to succeed at UP;
- Rendering a service to support professional services departments and faculties in the implementation of reasonable accommodation and training of personnel;
- Assisting and making recommendations to faculties and professional services departments regarding physical accessibility for students with disabilities;
Administration and projects:
- Participating in promotional and awareness events;
- Planning and performing administrative tasks for the division based on the students, ADIS, DSA, and institutional requirements;
- Evaluating services and concession data to prepare reports;
- Managing and coordinating projects assigned by the line manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant National three-year Diploma; WITH
Three years’ experience in working with:
- People with disabilities;
- Confidential information (medical reports and personal information);
- Assistive technology;
OR
- Grade 12; WITH
Five years’ experience in working with;
- People with disabilities;
- Confidential information (medical reports and personal information);
- Assistive technology.
