Senior Electrical Engineer – REF: JW398EX/2025 needed at Johannesburg Water

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Planning of portfolio for bulk wastewater to ensure readiness for implementation of projects/programmes. Identify any specialist input required during project designs and report to the Chief Engineer of Bulk Wastewater to initiate the procurement process.
• Set the boundary conditions and parameters for the design of solutions to problems. Lead and guide the staff in the preparation of sound engineering design solutions. Investigate and propose new and innovative ways of solving engineering problems.
• Review the proposed preliminary and detailed design solutions to ensure sound solutions are provided. Review the adequacy and accuracy of all design solutions and calculations. Review and confirm that proposed solutions including materials are cost effective. Lead and guide the subordinates with best practice engineering designs and solutions.
• Manage and monitor that contracts are administered as per the conditions of the contract. Review project tasks and milestone plans compiled to track progress. Manage and provide guidance to the electrical engineering team to prepare project implementation plans and review for approval.
• Review the cash flow projections compiled by the team to ensure they are realistic for all projects implemented by the team. Ensure Bulk Wastewater standards for both materials and designs, are regularly updated and approved at the Standards Committee. Engage with external professionals, Council departments and the public to facilitate successful project implementation.
• Ensure staff development and training by identifying training needs and suitable courses. Manage the bulk wastewater cluster in carrying out the function of an in-house consultant for specialist field for Johannesburg Water to ensure a quality service delivery of the company objectives and targets under CAPEX portfolio.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

• Bachelor of Science Degree NQF7 in Electrical Engineering OR Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
• Degree / Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering
• Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist.
• 10 years relevant electrical engineering experience of which minimum of:
• 5 years must be in the design of electrical engineering systems for pumpstations/reservoirs/wastewater treatment works / valve chambers/water metering and any other electrical components related to water and sanitation services.
• 5 years in managing a technical team of electrical or multiple-disciplinary engineers.
• Computer Literacy in design packages such as Techno CAD/AutoCAD/Civil Designer/Civil 3D.
• Valid code B driver’s license and own transport
