Senior Environmental Educational Officer needed at Nelson Mandela Bay Metro

Qualifications and experience required:

• A National Diploma/Degree in Environmental Management/Environmental Education, Nature Conservation, Natural Sciences.
• Registered Peace Officer.
• A valid Code B driver’s licence.
• Three years’ working experience in Environmental Education with at least one year at supervisory level.

Special conditions associated with the position:

• Must be physically fit and able-bodied.
• Ability to bend, lift heavy objects and climb ladders and fences into pits.
• Ability to operate in varying temperatures and environments with severe odours, tannery, sewerage drains, landfill sites, exhumations, etc.
• Required to work outside of normal working hours and standby duties as and when required.

Job purpose:

• Performing activities associated with increasing public awareness and understanding of environmental and development issues, such as individual rights and responsibilities, through providing information for the purpose of enhancing decision-making and to assist with the planning of sustainable development through conducting appropriate educational courses, seminars, workshops and presentations based on applicable environmental and conservation legislation.
• As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
