Job Description

  • Supporting and executing Group and Segment IFRS Advisory and Policy projects

Key Result Areas

Group Technical Advisory

  • Advising on structuring and accounting consequences of proposed corporate activity and historic corporate activity.
  • Act as a central Professional Practice Department (PPD) or centre of excellence for all technical accounting related topics.
  • Interpreting, communicating, and advising on accounting standards and disclosures throughout the Group to ensure consistency of application and reporting standards.
  • Supporting the Head: Group Technical Accounting with the integration of technical accounting project outcomes (i.e. policies and frameworks) into business as usual.

Liaise with the external auditors.

  • Supporting preparation of reports to the Audit Committee and Board (where applicable).
  • Knowledge Sharing & Professional Development
  • Drive continuous improvement through knowledge sharing, training and review.
  • Supporting the Head: Group Technical Accounting in the preparation of technical updates and the communication of industry developments to OML finance teams.
  • Maintains up-to-date technical accounting knowledge hub and review of industry practice.
  • Preparation and submission of comment letters to various applicable IFRS committees

Financial Statements

  • Technical review of interim and annual OML and OMLAC(SA) financial statements on specifically scoped requests
  • Supporting the response to technical audit queries during reporting cycles pertaining to the financial statements.

Qualifications, Skills and Required Experience 

  • CA(SA) with minimum 4-7 years’ relevant post-qualification experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of IFRS and technical application
  • Self-motivated, team player with a desire to learn new skills and grow
  • Ability to multi-task and focus on detailed problems, with the tenacity to drive issues until resolved
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader team
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setting with a dual team location
  • Organized and structured
  • Strong ability to solve problems
  • Highly skilled in report writing and detailed reviews of written submissions
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question.

Education

  • Chartered Accountant: Accountancy (Required)
