Key Responsibility Areas
- Assume responsibility for implementing Business Continuity annual planning and disaster recovery efforts with a major focus on assuring the adequacy of business unit contingency plans for critical business areas, functions and applications.
- Maintain continued operations, asset protection, and loss mitigation in the event of a disruption, coordinating activities of continuity and recovery with the municipality’s business units and development functions, as required.
- Develop capacity within business unit management to design continuity plans, mitigating the effect of disruptions to critical technology, technology systems, processes and people. Key objectives are that business units can continue to manage the municipalitys assets, satisfy our regulatory obligations, and maintain service delivery standards.
- Ensure direct communications and reporting between the BCP Project Office, BCM steering Committee, Risk Management Committee, and Systems Application Program Management and other relevant structures.
- Participate in appropriate business unit and development planning meetings and activities.
- Facilitate timely identification, escalation, resolution, and follow-up for all outstanding issues.
- Analyze trends and undertake periodic reviews and tests of continuously established Business Recovery Plans and procedures, reporting findings to management and making recommendations for improvements as needed.
- Provide strong support structure to the Chief Risk Officer in assuming leadership role in developing, coordinating, and maintaining comprehensive business contingency and recovery plans and validation methodology, to ensure the municipality’s ability to recovery, in the event of an unforeseen disruption to facilities, technology systems, or applications.
- Demonstrate commitment to Councils corporate responsibilities.
- Provide continuity expertise in enhancing; formalizing, and standardizing the business planning process, including forecasting and tracking mechanisms,
- across all business units, to facilitate timely accommodation of future
- municipality recovery requirements and opportunities.
- Provide Business Continuity documentation and training to all employees having a need to understand the Business Continuity and recovery process.
- Develop a program to integrate municipal business continuity programs with critical stakeholder continuity programs.
- Facilitate reporting on execution of the Business Continuity Management Annual Plan and other continuity risks that the municipality need to prevent and manage.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualification (NQF Level 8) in Business Continuity Management or Risk Management or Auditing or Disaster Management or Accounting or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or any other related and equivalent qualification.
- Professional Certification: Certificate in Business Continuity Institute Certificate or ISO22301 Lead Implementor Certificate.
- Member of a relevant Professional Body.
- 6 years business continuity experience, of which 2 years must be at management level.
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s qualification (NQF Level 9) specialising in Business Continuity Management or Risk Management or Auditing or Disaster Management or Accounting or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or any other related and equivalent qualification.
- Professional Certification Certificate in Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) Certificate or ISO22301 Lead Implementor Certificate.
- Member of a relevant Professional Body.
- 7 years business continuity experience of which 3 years must be at management level.
