Purpose

  • The Senior Process Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of technical advisory services and project execution within the Proconics Group, contributing to the advancement of the South African Just Energy Transition. This position is integral to the development and implementation of innovative and efficient solutions for clients operating critical hazardous chemical processing infrastructure. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Senior Process Engineer will leverage their expertise to contribute to conceptual design and front-end engineering ensuring projects align with Proconics’ mission of transformative brilliance. This includes the practical application of process engineering principles to enhance client facility longevity and efficiency. The role involves close collaboration with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders to effectively solve complex process engineering problems. The position will further be responsible for ensuring that equipment vendor inquiries are efficiently managed and addressed to meet project requirements and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Deliver process technical deliverables for concept and basic design packages. 
  • Develop process and hydraulic simulations and able to interpret results. 
  • Play a pivotal role during flow sheet (PFD/P&ID) development. 
  • Participate in safety review studies (PHA/HAZOP etc.) and closing off actions. 
  • Translate process intent across disciplines during design and managing interfaces. 
  • Interacting with OEMs and evaluate vendor proposals for bid clarifications. 
  • Assist in planning and reviewing of technical work and maintaining project schedules and work plans. 
  • Coaching of graduates through technical delivery. 
  • Work closely with other disciplines, project managers and engineering managers with the intention to support and achieve the goals of the company. 
  • Assume the lead role for multi – disciplinary projects where required.

Qualifications/Experience

  • B.Eng./ BSc. Eng. in Chemical Engineering. 
  • 10+ years’ experience as Process Engineer in Petrochemical industry with a proven track record in design, commissioning and operation support.    
  • Registered Pr. Eng. with ECSA. 
  • Computer literacy with MS office and Process simulation tools (Aspen+, Hysys, PROII, etc.), equipment sizing tools (HTRI, HTFS, etc.) and hydraulics tools (AFT Fathom/Arrow, Flownex, etc.).    
  • Knowledge of applicable design codes, standards and regulations.

  • Zero tolerance towards unsafe designs, hazards acts and a passion for a zero-harm culture through safe engineering solutions.    
  • Able to conceptually understand a problem and develop fit for purpose solutions to partners, creating long-term relationship. 
  • Must be capable of evaluating and weighing alternatives, establishing relative priorities, formulating decisions that affect all phases of projects and complete life cycle of proposed engineering solutions.     
  • Comfortable working in a matrix environment reporting to multiple managers on projects and to functional discipline.     
  • Ability to work across disciplines, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.    
  • Self-starter, who takes ownership of problems. 
  • Ability to work under pressure. Open mindedness and agility to respond to changing problem statements. Emotional resilience and able to make a convincing argument and influence customer’s decision making for the benefit of all stakeholders.
