Senior Professional Officer & Professional Officer needed at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• Professional Officer Three (3) to Five (5) years’ relevant experience and Senior Professional Officer Five (5) to eight (8) years’ relevant experience of electrical systems including the Design and Commissioning of Low Voltage and Or Medium and High voltage secondary and primary plant and equipment.
• A relevant three-year tertiary qualification, preferably a B-Degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Computer proficient in MS Office Suite, SAP and Electrical Protection Software Packages as well as Dig Silent / Retic Master
• Calculation of Protection settings experience is preferred or willingness to acquire this skill.
• Eligible for registration with ECSA
• Extensive exposure to electrical distribution equipment and electrical distribution infrastructure, with particular emphasis and knowledge relating to MV and LV distribution switchgear, transformers, miniature substations and Variable Speed Drives, Electric Motors, Motor control Centres and substation ancillary equipment will be an added advantage.
• Project & Contract Management experience will be an added advantage.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Key Performance Areas

Professional Officer

• Perform professional functions associated with Electrical.

Projects:

Assist with compiling tender documentation and specifications for

Maintenance and capital projects:

• Participate in root cause assessments of systems and equipment.
• Participate in investigations, capture, and analysis of data,

Conduct surveys, analyse results:

• Generate basic / concept / detail design documentation.
• Monitor compliance with contractual terms and conditions,

Standards, procedures, regulations, and specifications.

• Perform ad hoc factory and site inspections and audits.
• Oversee contract expenses within planned projects and monitor.

Expenditure against the approved budget allocation.

• Interact with Department and Project Team to ensure efficient.

Communication.

• Do Power load flow studies using Dig Silent or Retic Master. 
• Assist with Project Administration.

Senior professional Officer

• To provide project technical design engineering support service to the relevant client branches, & workshop maintenance personnel ensuring that the most appropriate design is offered/selected by the client branches.
• To provide project, contract management, monitoring & evaluation
• Monitoring compliance with contractual terms & conditions, standards, procedures, regulations & specifications preparing investigational & qualitative reports.
• Compile tender specifications and assist with review of general specifications for water and Sanitation Directorate
• Initiation and overall coordination of electrical section equipment and new technology training programme
• Chairing and be a member of Bid Specification, & Evaluation Committees for tenders
• Read and interpret Electrical Engineering Protection and Design drawings and MV SLD’s.
• Ability to calculate or review basic fault levels and relay grading/settings.
• Appointment as a Responsible Person in terms of the NRS ORHVS or SAQA 2
