About the Role

This high-RPM clinical role manages specialized neuropsychiatric data and ensures 100% compliance with HPCSA and national health protocols in acute hospital settings. Utilizing ServiceNow for patient workflow orchestration and specialized health informatics, the registrar mitigates operational risk in complex diagnostic environments. Their expertise leverages data-driven diagnostics to optimize psychiatric outcomes and ensures the technical integrity of the provincial mental health services.

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry.
  • Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview.
  • This concession is only applicable on health professionals who apply for the first time for registration with the relevant council (including individuals who must apply for change in registration status)”.
  • Appointment as Senior Registrar will be for a maximum contract period of 2 years. Senior Registrars will function across health facilities, as per an agreed programme. Consideration will be given to existing employees who are already on higher salary packages to retain their existing salary position, as personal. As such they are entitled to receive pay progression. Appointment as Senior Registrar will be on contract. The pool of applications 
  • Commuted overtime is compulsory (Liaison Psychiatry).
  • Outreach to district and specialist hospitals. Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic neuropsychiatric disorders, including conditions associated with neuroHIV, TBI, epilepsy and other related conditions.
  • Communication including report generation, letter writing, consultation. Effective and efficient administration. Facilitation of management system. MMED and FCPsych (SA) qualifications.
  • Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry Independent Practice.
  • Teaching and Training/Supervision of Junior Staff. Clinical Service Provision. Clinical Governance and Administration. Completion of the logbook of neuropsychiatric cases, presentations and medicolegal aspects.
  • Effective and efficient administration of clinical records and patient reports. Presentations at conferences. Initiate and complete appropriate research project for MPhil in Neuropsychiatry. Participate in the teaching programmes of the Department at a level appropriate to training and experience. Undertake and complete College of Medicine examination for the Certificate Neuropsychiatry (SA).
  • R 1 341 855 per annum A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs.

Career Growth & Education

A Master of Medicine (MMed) in Psychiatry and active registration with the HPCSA as a specialist are mandatory. Career growth leads toward Specialist Psychiatrist or Clinical Head roles through completing the fellowship and mastering clinical governance.
