Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires a Senior UX & UI Designer at our Head Office in Midrand. To lead the design efforts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality user experiences for Dis-Chems digital platforms. Collaborate with teams to create functional and visually appealing features that address customer needs.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • 5 years’ experience as a UX/UI designer
  • Degree in Graphic Design, IT or Computer Science

Advantageous:

  • Post-graduate qualification in Graphic Design, IT or Computer Science
  • Previous experience in a senior or lead design role is preferred.

Job Specification:

User Research:

  • Conduct user research to understand user preferences.
  • Plan and conduct user interviews with stakeholders to gain a better understanding of user needs and problems.
  • Analyse data from user research and make decisions on how to improve a product’s design.

UX/UI Design:

  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Create visually compelling and user-friendly interfaces, concepts and interactions for both web and
  • mobile applications from insights and feedback.
  • Design and refine user interactions to enhance overall user experience.
  • Conceptualise and iterate on design solutions for complex user & business problems, by creating UI
  • and prototypes.
  • Describe and refine user stories (Agile development), e.g. support user stories with UI and prototypes.
  • Contribute to the development of a consistent user experience and ensure the standard use of Design
  • Patterns through collaboration with other designers.
  • Advocate for the needs of the users and help create a shared understanding of UX principles amongst
  • colleagues.
  • Lead a feature or design project from conceptualisation to implementation.
  • Take part in regular Scrum meetings via Teams like Daily’s, Sprint Planning, Refinements, Reviews and Retros.

Usability Testing:

  • Plan and conduct usability testing with local users to gather feedback and iterate on designs.
  • Implement user feedback to improve and optimize user interfaces.
  • Conduct user testing to ensure solutions solve user problems effectively and test if a design is usable.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure practical and seamless integration of design concepts.
  • Regularly involve and align with stakeholders and team members on design iterations.
  • Present user findings, design concepts and implemented solutions to stakeholders.

Team Management:

  • Implement department strategy by setting annual objectives for the team and tracking progress.
  • Facilitate the creation of accountable, full-service teams who understand and strive to meet the needs
  • of all stakeholders through effective inspirational leadership.
  • Take full responsibility for performance of all direct reports, motivating and managing them in relation
  • to quality standards and agreed benchmarks and objectives, focusing on all aspects of sound people management.

General:

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.

Competencies

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of UX/UI methodologies, User-centred design, best practices,
    and processes. Ability to apply user design software such as Figma, Sketch, In Vision,
    Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Google Suite, Google Slides,
    Agile Working Model, Confluence / Jira, Basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript and Microsoft
    PowerPoint or other related software to design presentations. Knowledge on how to
    conduct user interviews, usability testing, surveys etc.
  • Analyses complex data and research to define user problems, needs and insights that
    inform design decisions.
  • Understands and interprets business requirements, to design solutions that meet
    business needs.
  • Communicates effectively (both verbally and in writing) with both technical and nontechnical
    colleagues / users. Effective at presenting and articulating design decisions.
  • Supports colleagues to ensure concepts move from proposal to successful
    implementation. Collaborates effectively with stakeholders and other team members
    (i.e. developers) to ensure feasibility of designs and ability to adapt when technical
    constraints arise.
  • Checks work to ensure accuracy and completeness paying strong attention to detail.
  • Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieves
    results with little oversight. Self-Starter and Proactive.
  • Computer Skills – Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook,
    Google Suite, Google Slides
