Responsibilities
- Report on performance, achievements, compliance, incidents, trends and issues;
- Facilitate the management of key safety and environmental projects driving the success of Zero Harm;
- Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections;
- Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics;
- Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
- Evaluate health and safety practice and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines.
- Conduct accident prevention training and health and safety training.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to find cause and take prevention measures for further incidents.
- Handle worker’s compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident.
- Suggest solutions, improvements and prevention steps for safety issues.
Authority:
- Regarding safety matters, the safety manager has direct access to the Accountable Executive and appropriate senior and middle management.
- The safety manager is authorized to conduct safety audits, surveys and inspections of any aspect of the operation.
- The safety manager has the authority to conduct investigations of internal safety events in accordance with the procedures specified in the safety management system of the organization.
- The safety manager has the authority to stop or prohibit any operation considered to be unsafe.
General:
- Support the management team in achieving Zero Harm.
- Good work practices & compliance of all Safety Requirements.
- Adherence to Legal Safety Regulations and International Standards for Safety requirements.
- Follow Departmental and Company Processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required.
- Safety Management Diploma / Degree
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 year’s experience as the Safety, Health and Environmental Manager.
- Extensive knowledge of health and safety systems from a leadership perspective within a heavy industrial environment.
- Breakthrough thinking and innovative ideas foster collaborative relationships across the various functions on site and contribute to the overall success of the organization.
- Experience at the corporate level implementing a strategic health, safety and environment framework ensuring quality systems are maintained.
Skills:
- Computer Literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Computer Systems (IFS, Project Management Collaboration Platforms)
- Be able to communicate clearly.
- Be technically competent.
- Problem solving and decision making.
